Using a dog brush regularly is essential for maintaining your dog’s coat. Some coats may even require daily brushing. While brushing your dog, not only are you bonding with them, but you are removing dirt, mats and tangles as well as stimulating blood flow. When done right, it can be a relaxing and enjoyable experience for your pet. However, it’s important that you find the right dog brush for your dog’s coat type, as using the wrong brush might make grooming uncomfortable for them.

Best Brush For Short Haired Dogs

Short haired dogs are relatively low maintenance when it comes to grooming as the hair is smooth and unlikely to mat. However, you should try to brush them weekly as they are prone to moulting and loose hair can build up. Brushing will also help to remove any dirt trapped in the hair and distribute natural oils. As the hair is short and close to the skin, the brush you use should not be too harsh. We recommend using a brush with bristles, nylon pins or rubber pins to avoid agitating the skin.

Best Brush For Long Haired Dogs

Long haired coats will usually pick up a lot of dirt and can knot easily, so it’s a good idea to brush them daily if possible. You should pay special attention to areas like the legs, which are likely to become matted. In general, a De-Matting Comb is useful to have for long haired dogs as well as a Slicker Brush. Best Brush For Curly Haired Dogs

Generally, curly haired dogs don’t shed their coats and because of this they are more prone to tangling and matting. This coat type requires regular brushing to help prevent this. Best Brush For Silky Haired Dogs

This coat type requires maintenance to avoid tangling and mats. Silky haired dogs can be either single coated or double coated depending on the breed. Double coats tend shed, so you might find that daily brushing is required to remove the excess hair. Best Brush For Double-Coated Dogs

Double-coated dogs are known for being big shedders, therefore are quite high maintenance in terms of grooming. This can be seasonal or all year round depending on the breed. Best Brush For Wiry Haired Dogs

Wire-haired dogs tend to have an undercoat and longer topcoat. To keep the longer topcoat from matting it’s best to brush regularly.
