Which Clipper is Right For Me?

Adelar Pro: Perfect for Trimming and Touch-Ups on Nervous or Young Horses

These clippers are perfect for trimming and part-clipping shorter, finer coats. They are quiet, lightweight, and suitable for introducing nervous or young horses to clipping. Lister’s stand-out light duty trimmer is the Adelar Pro, which is their best selling trimmer for light duty/touch ups.

Lister Eclipse: Achieve a Flawless Finish with Superior Maneuverability

Medium-duty clippers can handle all coat types. They provide a combination of power and manoeuvrability, making them suitable for general clipping. When looking to leave your horses coat with some texture consider the Eclipse Clipper for an excellent finish

Lister Legend: Unmatched Durability and Power for Professional Clipping

Heavy-duty clippers are designed for professional users or those who regularly clip multiple animals. They are durable and capable of cutting through coarse or difficult hair without wavering under pressure. Lister’s heavy-duty range includes the Lister Legend.

Which bLADE is right for mY cLIPPER this show season?

Short Cut – Fine Blade

A2F/AC Fine blades are our most common clipping blades, with every clipper leaving our factory having a set fitted.

A firm favourite amongst those showing their animals in the summer months, this close cutting horse clipper blade will accentuate features and provide a smart finish.

Leaving 1.4mm on hair, this blade produces a smart, clean finish, ideal for horses in heavy work.

Short/Medium Cut – Coarse Blade

The CA2/AC Course blade leaves more hair on the animal than a fine blade and is ideal for general grooming. When considering a trim for your horse, the coarse blade might be ideal if you want a short cut, without having to use the fine blade on a horse that have coarser hair from the winter months.

Summer Coat – Medium Blade

Another blade option for clipping in the summer is our A2/AC Medium blade.

This horse clipper blade is ideal for general grooming, leaving more hair on the animal than a fine blade.

Recommended for grey horses and horses with pink skin that are prone to burn when out in the sun.

This blade leaves 2.5mm of hair, producing slightly more coverage across the coat while still giving a glossy, sheen finish.

Season Transition – Covercote Blade

Lister’s most popular summer clipping blade is our Covercote blade.

It is a popular choice for horse transitioning between seasons as it cuts off excess length but still maintains the appearance of a smart coat.

Leaving 5mm of hair on the coat, this blade is designed for removing the thickness that horses such as cobs can experience.

The Covercote design is also perfect for horses with Cushings disease, removing the thick undercoat and making it more manageable all year round.

Don’t forget the Finishing Touches Before you’re ready for the show!

Shampoo & Conditioner

It’s a good idea to give your horse a bath after you’ve removed the winter coat to freshen up the hair & skin that’s been hidden away. When doing so, make sure to use a super gentle shampoo and add a conditioner afterwards. With their short coat they’re going to be growing in, it’s important to keep their natural oils to act as a natural protection and shine for their coat.

For easy removal of knot and tangles, ensure your horses mane and tail is clean. Wahl Shampoos and Conditioners can aid in detangling, making brushing more comfortable for yourself and your horse.

Coat Brushing

To get the best out of your horse’s Summer coat, it is good to spread their natural oils all over their coat using grooming tools.

The best equine grooming tool for body grooming is a curry comb. The Wahl Rubber Curry has been specifically designed for easy, effective use and comfort for the horse and groomer. This short-toothed horse grooming brush is made with rubber and can be used to rub or “curry” the loose hair, dirt, debris and other particles from under your horse’s coat surface. In addition, when using in a circular motion it can stimulate the skin for healthy blood flow and the production of natural oils.

When using a curry brush, it helps to stop every now and then to flick loose hairs and dirt off your horse using the Wahl Stiff Bristle Body Brush.

Afterwards, use the Wahl Soft Bristle Body Brush to remove smaller particles and grease from the coat. This brush provides a soothing sensation to the horse and encourages natural oils to move through the coat for a healthy shine. We also have a version that is smaller and designed for gentle use on the face – Wahl Face Brush.

Hoof Cleaning

It is important to clean your horse’s hooves of dirt, mud, stones, gravel and debris throughout the year. If left and the hooves are not picked, this can lead to discomfort, infection, and lameness.

A hoof pick is a hooked tool with a handle, usually made of metal or plastic that removes all material that gets packed into the sole of a horse’s hoof. Simply lift horse’s foot so that the bottom of the hoof is reachable, then pick out the trapped debris from heel to toe.

The Wahl Hoof Pick has an ergonomic handle with soft rubberized surface for maximum user comfort.

FAQ

The Lister Legend comes with the Coarse Blade, The Lister Eclipse comes with a Fine Blade and the Adelar Pro comes with a Diamond Coated 5-in-1 Blade

The Adelar Pro has the quieter motor, however since it is smaller and designed for trimming, it would take longer to give a full groom. The perfect middle ground would be the Lister Eclipse as it has both power and an efficient cutting system to trim the whole body quickly.
